You probably had a squashed, uncertain expression the first time you ate it, but then you fell in love.

It’s a dish that can be found on menus all across the world but look no further than these three eateries for the best octo-meal. In this edition of Restaurant Roundup, we’ll talk about our ode to the octopus and where to find it in Orlando.

The Grilled Octopus at Cocina Maya Mexican Grill and Mezcaleria

Cocina Maya is a Mexican restaurant that also has an extensive seafood menu. This means you can find everything from tacos to octopuses, but we recommend starting with the grilled octopus. This dish is served with corn on the cob and sauteed Broccoli. It’s one of the most popular dishes at the restaurant, and for good reason! The intense flavor is intense, with a crisp exterior and creamy interior that make it hard to stop eating this tasty dish. Pair them with an ice-cold Dos Equis beer or an old-fashioned mezcal, and you’ll be set!

What is the secret to the Pulpo Maya recipe?

Chef and Owner, Gustavo gives us some tips on the recipe.

The adobo is like ‘al Pastor’. We prepare it with a combination of pineapple juice, orange, dried guajillo chilies, garlic, oregano, pepper, and salt just to mention a few spices. We blend it until obtaining a smooth paste. After, we cover the octopus and let it rest for several hours.

“Pulpo Al Grill Anticuchado” at El Inca Grill Ceviche

El Inca Grill Ceviche is a seafood lover’s paradise with the freshest catch. Among all the dishes they serve, the crisp grilled octopus is by far our favorite. They serve a pair of tender cuts of octopus marinated in a Peruvian panca pepper sauce and grilled to perfection. Pair them with a nice glass of white wine or two!

Grilled octopus is one of the most requested dishes in restaurants, but many times we wonder how it will be done.

Is cooking octopus complicated?

Chef Ivan, from the El Inca Grill cevichería, gave us some tips on how to prepare it.

Cooking octopus is not difficult. It may cost you more the first few times, but it is not complicated. Try not to go too far with the cooking point, otherwise, you will get the result that you want to avoid so much: that the octopus is hard and chewy. When the water is boiling, turn off the heat and let it cool in the water. Let it finish cooking slowly.

The “Rocktopus” at Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill
